My Top Five Travel Tips for Women
Before you travel this holiday season, you may want to keep these helpful tips in mind from our guest blogger Debbi K. Kickham, author of The Globetrotter’s Get-Gorgeous Guide, a beauty book for traveling women.
I’ve been a professional travel writer for more than 25 years. After all those trips, I must say—for most women, even if you leave the house looking like Catherine Deneuve, you’ll wind up resembling Gerard Depardieu after a day’s worth of travel. That said, I have an arsenal of natural beauty and health tips to serve as ammunition against looking your worst on the plane, at the airport, and at your destination. There’s no doubt that practicing healthy habits can contribute to having a radiant, beautiful look. So try some of these tips—they just might be your visa to a vivacious-looking face and figure!
- Coconut oil is a great multi-tasker to travel with. Use it as a makeup remover, skin lotion or hair conditioner. Some people even drink coconut oil—it acts to maintain cholesterol levels, and it contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that can help take off excess weight.
- Broadcaster Joan Lunden always swears by this travel tip: Pack your own satin pillowcase in your carry-on, and put it over the pillowcase in your hotel. The satin keeps your hair and face from getting unwanted creases (wrinkles!) and is much softer on your skin and hair than cotton.
- Traveling by plane? Bring a small three-ounce spritzer of rosewater or facial toner. Misting your face before you apply moisturizer allows it to sink into your skin much better and wards off dehydration from stale air.
- Whether you’re traveling by car, ship, train or plane, bring plenty of healthy snacks with you such as almonds, fresh fruit, low fat string cheese, and baby carrots. These are much better for your figure than salty peanuts!
- I never travel ANYWHERE without my eye mask—it lets me sleep in a cocoon of comfort on planes and trains, and allows me to get serious shuteye in the middle of a sunlit day, when I desperately need a nap.
